The Nasty B Word

I have to admit that my last few entries have been a little dry. The business side of me overtakes my body and focuses on numbers, spreadsheets, links, press and goals. And that doesn’t have zip. Or, zing. Or, personality. And, as much as I hate to admit it, it doesn’t show my “bubbly” personality.

B-U-B-B-L-Y. Did I just say that? What am I thinking? I despise that word. I REALLY do. Yet, everyone that meets me seems to like to describe me that way. They say—“You are so friendly, down to earth… [okay, good up until that point] and BUBBLY.” Oh, come on. Just what a professional woman wants to hear. You are bubbly? What about smart? Nice? It kills me to hear it every time. But, deep down, I guess it is true at some level. I am happy. I like people. Okay, I may be a little bubbly. I guess it is better than the other B word that lots of other women in business get! (laugh).

But I can’t say it out loud. I can’t describe myself that way. So, I won’t. (as I stomp my foot down) I have an emotional barrier. A psychological block. So, from this point forward, I will refer to "it" as the J-factor. Yes, the Jolie Factor. It will be our little secret. The B word will never be spoken again.

Back to my blog. Here's my commitment to you: I promise to always try and balance my left brain, right brain, scattered brain and J-Factor. Some days you will get stats, some days you will get fun, some days, you will get the J-Factor.

PREVIEW: Tomorrow you will get fun. Tomorrow's entry will be about the fun questions we should ask community members to reveal their true personalities. I want to stay away from the standard ones-- What's your sign? If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

Send me your suggestions and I will test them out tomorrow. To get your wheels turning--

Leon's idea: "If you could have a super power, what would it be?"
Matt's idea: "What is your rock anthem?"

What's your one question that you think is revealing of someones true personality?

Hi all: I'm tossing out a few questions to start us off.

If you could take one item to a desert island what would it be? My answer Boring though it is I'd take water because I wouldn't last long without it.

If you could take three items one being food, one being music and one being other what would it be?

My answer Chocolate and hope I find water; the Moody Blues Days of Future Passed; my husband who would take our dog (Ok that's cheating - I'll leave Hanna with one of my kids.)

If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? My response I'd call my mom. I'd tell her sincerely how much I love her. (The I loves yous are infrequent and quickly said.) I would ask her to make sure my daughters are alright without me. I would ask her not to be sad; that I've had a great life and I would talk and listen to her about anything she wanted to say and hear. Jo

I'll have to think about my own answers, but one question would be what the best lesson is that you learned, and the companion question would be, if you could teach the world one important lesson, what would it be.

I like those. Ok let's give it a try:

1. The best lesson I have learned is mindfullness. "Mindfulness is the practice whereby a person is intentionally aware of his or her thoughts and actions in the present moment, non-judgmentally. Largely associated with Buddhism, in which it is called sati, the practice of mindfulness is also advocated by such people as medical researcher and author Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn (I mentioned him in my blog.)..."
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mindfulness

Mindfulness allows me to realize what I am eating by looking at the food first. It allows me to actually see the beautiful scenery while hiking rather than just thinking about the top of the mountain. Mindfulness allows me to be in the moment and we can really only be happy if we are in the moment (Buddhist philosophy).

2. Why do we kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong? I would teach the lesson of coexisting if we want our planet saved.

In the same vein I would and have taught parents that hitting children only teaches them that hitting is alright. It stops the negative behavior only because the child is scared. Do you want your child to be afraid of you?

Jo who will get on a soapbox or viewpoint any chance she gets!
